Lennox Ductwork Repair: The Houston Owner’s Guide

Lennox ductwork repair in Houston typically runs $150 – $650 installed, depending on how much duct has failed and where it’s located. We stock Lennox-compatible duct materials on our trucks and can complete most duct repairs the same day we diagnose the problem.

Most Houston homeowners discover a duct problem the same way: one room in the house never gets comfortable no matter what the thermostat says, or there’s a room that smells faintly dusty every time the air kicks on. Sometimes it’s a spike in the electric bill and no obvious reason why. Ductwork is the delivery system for everything your Lennox system produces, and when it fails, the dollars literally blow into the attic. In Houston’s humidity, the problem compounds fast. A small tear starts pulling attic air, which is damp and dirty, into the conditioned space. That means the system works harder, rooms stay uneven, and the indoor air quality in the house, especially for kids and pets close to the floor, takes a hit.

We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Lennox directly, but we service Lennox equipment daily and keep the duct materials that match their system specs on hand. Luis Serrano has spent years working on Houston homes, including quite a few out near the Energy Corridor where duct runs bake in some of the hottest attic conditions in the city. He keeps the same approach on every duct job: look at the whole run, not just the obvious tear, because a duct system fails in patterns, not in single events.

Which Lennox Models This Applies To

Ductwork isn’t model-specific the way a control board or a blower motor is, but it is brand-specific in terms of sizing, sealing, and system expectations. Lennox systems, from the Merit series through the Elite and Signature lines, are engineered to move air at specific static pressures. That means the duct size, the number of bends, the connection points, and the sealing method all matter when a repair is made. Install ducting that’s too small for a Lennox variable-speed air handler, and the system will ramp up trying to push air through a space that won’t cooperate. You’ll hear it: a moving-wall quiet from the vents replaced by a faint accelerating hum that never settles.

The two most common Lennox setups we repair in Houston are flexible duct runs in attic spaces and the metal plenum connections at the air handler. Flexible ducts are labeled on the outer jacket with R-value and diameter, typically R-6 or R-8 in our climate. Houston’s humidity argues for R-8 minimum on any run we install or repair. The R-6 product is cheaper up front, but it’s also more prone to condensation on the outer jacket in an unconditioned attic in July, which then soaks the insulation and drips onto whatever is below. We’ve repaired ceiling stains in Meyerland homes that started as nothing more than an under-insulated duct sweating through a Houston summer.

For the repair itself, we use OEM-compatible materials matched to the existing duct’s diameter and insulation rating. On Lennox systems, the connection at the supply plenum is critical because Lennox air handlers are sensitive to airflow imbalance. A quality aftermarket duct section, properly sized and sealed with mastic, performs identically to the original when the connection details are respected. Where OEM matters more is at proprietary transition fittings, and we carry those for Lennox units when they’re needed.

Signs Your Lennox Ductwork Repair Is Failing

  • One room stays hot or cold no matter the thermostat setting. This usually means a disconnected or crushed duct run serving that room. The conditioned air is being delivered into the attic instead of the room, and the system has no way to know it.
  • Dust shows up fast on surfaces near vents. A torn return duct pulls attic air into the system before it reaches the filter, which means the air coming out of your supply vents is carrying whatever lives in the attic. This is a big deal for Houston homes because attic air here carries humidity and fine insulation fibers.
  • You can hear air moving in a room even when the system is off. That’s a duct that has come apart somewhere and is acting like an open window. The sound is usually a faint whisper from a ceiling area or closet, and it changes with wind outside.
  • The electric bill crept up during a mild month. A duct system losing 20-30% of its conditioned air into the attic will make the Lennox system run longer to hit the thermostat. The system isn’t failing. The delivery path is.
  • Condensation or damp spots near duct runs in the attic. In Houston’s humidity, a poorly insulated or torn duct jacket will sweat. That moisture collects, drips onto framing or drywall, and eventually becomes a mold or staining problem that costs far more than the duct repair itself.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Houston homes, most Lennox ductwork repairs fall between $150 and $650 installed. The range comes down to three things: how many duct runs are damaged, how accessible they are in the attic, and whether we’re repairing a section or replacing a full run. A single torn flexible duct that we can reach and repair usually lands at the lower end. A full run replacement in a tight attic with damaged connections at both ends lands at the upper end.

Every duct repair we quote includes the parts, the labor, the sealing with mastic (not tape, which fails in Houston’s heat), and a final inspection of the entire visible duct system, not just the failed section. We’ll tell you if other areas look ready to fail and quote them separately, with no pressure to approve anything beyond what you called about. Before any work starts, you’ll have a written price in hand. It’s the same standard we’ve held on every job since we opened our Houston location, and it’s part of the Cedarwell Care Promise every Meadowsweet job carries.

Our ductwork repairs are covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair doesn’t hold for a full year, we come back and make it right, no fine print and no back-and-forth on whose fault it was.

DIY or Call Us?

The honest split here is this: you can safely look at your ductwork, and you should not safely repair it. Ductwork in Houston attics means working in extreme heat, navigating tight spaces, and handling insulation that irritates skin and lungs. If you’re comfortable in your attic, you can check for obvious tears in the foil jacket, crushed sections under storage boxes, or connections that have pulled apart at the plenum. What you find there will help you describe the issue when you call.

But the repair itself involves sizing the replacement section correctly, making clean cuts, connecting and sealing with mastic, and checking airflow after the repair. Get the sizing wrong and you’ll create static pressure problems your Lennox system will fight for years. Get the sealing wrong and the repair fails by the next Houston heat wave. There are things worth doing yourself. This isn’t one of them if you want the repair to hold. Call (346) 201-5395 and we’ll diagnose it properly.
